4 Summer Activities You Can Drive to Near Bowie, TX

Bowie Swimming Pool

Spend the day at the town pool before the end of the season. Bowie Swimming Pool is open Monday through Friday from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 1 to 6 p.m. through Labor Day. Admission costs just $3 per person. The pool is located at 1601 E Wise St in Pelham Park. It has public shower and restroom facilities and a picnic pavilion with barbecue grills, so we love to pack a lunch and spend the whole day.

Selma Park

You can boat, fish, camp, and swim at Lake Amon G. Carter at this public park in Bowie. Facilities at Selma Park include covered picnic tables, public showers and restrooms, a sand volleyball court, a beach, a swimming pier, and a playground. The park is located at 304 Lindsey St, and you can visit all year from sunrise to sunset.

Caddo-LBJ National Grasslands

This popular outdoor recreational area, which is actually two separate properties, is only about a 25-minute drive from Bowie in Alvord. The diverse landscape of Caddo-LBJ National Grasslands creates a habitat for songbirds, turkey, quail, red foxes, bobcats, coyotes, deer, and many more species. The property’s many lakes are open to fish for sunfish, catfish, and bass.

You can picnic, hunt, camp, mountain bike, hike, and ride horses at Caddo-LBJ National Grasslands. With a total of nearly 40,000 acres to explore, this preserve is one of our favorite spots when we want to spend the day in nature. The vast area has many points of entrance, so we recommend parking at the convenient lot at Cottonwood Lake. It’s located just off County Rd 2560 at Soil Conservation Services Site 12 Reservoir.

Decatur Main Street Cruise Night

You can take part in this fun event just 30 minutes from Bowie in Decatur. Cruise Night is scheduled for September 2, so enter your classic car or plan to attend as a spectator. The cruise runs from 4 to 8 p.m. at Decatur Town Square at 101 N Trinity St. If you want to drive, you can register when you arrive for $15 per vehicle. You might even win an award! The ceremony takes place at 8 p.m.

If you’re ready for a head-turning new ride, we recommend the style and performance of a new Ford Mustang. Visit the knowledgeable team at Kory Hooks Ford today for your test drive.
